Bittermens, Inc. was formed to promote a positive cocktail culture and to bring the Bittermens® Bitters to market.
The Bittermens Team
Avery Glasser – Co-Founder of Bittermens, Inc. and Bittermens Spirits, Inc.
A backseat bartender and general flavour junkie, Avery focuses on creating the Bittermens formulations. When he’s not dreaming up new flavours, he’s working with bartenders on cocktail recipes…. occasionally while wearing a fez. Default Spirit: Anything brown and boozy.
Janet Glasser – Co-Founder of Bittermens, Inc. and Bittermens Spirits, Inc.
With more time as a cocktail consumer than the average corporate mogul, Janet is truly the brains behind the business side of Bittermens. As COO, she drives the operational aspects of Bittermens ranging from production scheduling to accounting to press and marketing. Default Spirit: Gin!
Mayur Subbarao – Co-Founder of Bittermens Spirits, Inc.
Master sommelier and ex-Beverage Director of El Cobre & Cienfuegos in New York’s East Village, Mayur has been pushing the envelope on blending modern techniques and classic flavour profiles. He created kegged cocktails for El Cobre and Amor y Amargo, perfected a method for clarifying citrus juice and designed a number of soon-to-be world class liqueurs and vermouths. Aside from creating new formulations, Mayur is Bittermens Spirits’ distributor liaison and handles all legal aspects for Bittermens Spirits. Default Spirit: Cognac
“Most people who drink cocktails vaguely know what bitters are, since they are called for in many recipes. However, for the average drinker, they probably have a bottle of Angostura and that’s it,” says Janet Glasser. A product like Bittermens is designed for people who want to take at-home mixing to the next level. What many regard "adding bitters" as is simply adding Angostura to a cocktail. Whilst this is a great bitters, there are many more that offer exciting and new flavours to your cocktails, and the Bittermens range are just that!
Avery and Janet Glasser started Bittermens, Inc. in 2007 with the vision of creating a new type of cocktail bitters. In the years that followed, Bittermens has grown to become one of the largest artisanal producers of cocktail bitters, flavouring extracts and other curiosities – such as vinegar based shrubs and exquisitely sour citrates.
Fate intervened when they were reunited with long time friend Mayur Subbarao, a master vermouth formulator and creator of wonderful cordials while working together on a New York pop-up bar concept. Together, the three formed Bittermens Spirits, Inc. and embarked on creating a new space where they can launch a generation of American-produced artisanal liqueurs, cordials and vermouths.
