This Galician winery specialises in producing world class Albariño, in the coast hugging renowned region of Rias Baixas (the green region) in Spain’s North-West corner. The Bodegas 17 ha of hostile vineyards are perfect for the production of high quality Albariño, which thrives in hot, low mineral difficult conditions. The small berries produced are intensely flavoured and picked by hand to ensure great quality control in the vineyard. The fruit is cooled on entry to the winery for 6-8 hours to maximise the delicate fresh aromas. The fermentation takes place in stainless steel, temperature controlled vats using wild yeasts. At every stage “excellence” is the primary focus.
This is most obvious in these two albariños – the Ambar is entirely made from the highly prized “free run juice”. This is the juice that contains the most hedonistic flavour components and the least bitter or green flavours, associated with skin contact. It is incredibly rare to find a wine that is 100% free run based. The Verde Albariño also has over 90% from free run juice, which is remarkable quality for value.
These incredible quality small production wines are bottled in traditional flutes which clearly highlights their history and style.
The bodegas of Mas de Bazán is in the heart of the DO of Utiel-Requena – which is in Valencia on the Mediterranean coast. It was established in 1905 and has been totally modernised over the last 10years.
The bobal grape variety is the most renowned in the DO Utiel-Requena. The Mas de Bazán bobal comes from very low yielding old vines with an average age of 100 years!
Bobal thrives in dry poor soils and extreme weather conditions which lead to the production of intense complex berries. These are selected and picked by hand, fermented in traditional concrete tanks and matured in French and American oak barrels for 14 months. This leads to the creation of a highly concentrated, wine with developed soft tannins. The wine has also had over 2 years of bottle aging in the bodegas cellars, adding to the complexity of the wine.
