About Domaine du Prince

Costieres de Nimes is a small appellation at the southern tip of the Rhone Valley. The Mediterranean climate is tempered by the sea breezes, and the soils are made up of rounded pebbles (known as “galets” in Chateauneuf de Pape), rich alluvial sand and red shale. The area vineyards here could be some of the worlds oldest as both the Greeks and the Romans settled here. The roman symbol for the town of Nimes was a crocodile chained to a palm tree which can still be seen on all certified bottles of Costieres de Nimes imprinted on the glass.

Domaine du Prince is a well established estate, with an eccentric past. In the early 20th century the owner was a classic “bon vivant” and took a great interest in fashion as well as wine and food. This lead to locals referring to him as a Prince, and so lead to the estates name. The old estate is 24 ha and has some great old vine syrah and Grenache plots.
