Bodegas de Sada is located in the Northeast of Navarra, at the foot of the southern Pyrenees. Navarra is a region with a strong tradition of wine making. The first reference we have of wine making in Sada-Navarra dates back to the 1st century A.D. in the Roman epoch. A complete wine processing industry can be found in Roman remains.

The tradition of Navarra vineyards becomes manifest by the findings of some tomb stones dating back to the 2nd century B.C., discovered in the valley of the Aragon river, including one covering the remains of one of Viriato´s daughters, where sculpted vine leaves and grape bunches are depicted.

The pilgrim´s road to Santiago de Compostela, running across Navarra, was a strong impulse for regional viticulture, which was fundamentally promoted by monastical institutions due to wine being consumed as medicine, liquid and body strengthener. What began as a story of a family of wine-makers, finally ended in the recognition of a unique personality and the name Sada joined the path of the development of a wine region with a very distinctive character: Navarra. The Sada wine cellars were founded in 1939 by Ely Castillo who originated from a family with strong ties to the wine-making industry. Bodegas Sada continued to grow as the years passed but never lost the spirit or aptitude of a family run company.

Vineyards

Oenology begins with wine growing. To be on vanguard of Navarra and in constant attitude of improving it, requires passion for wine and a constant search for perfection. In Bodegas Sada they've put all the necessary means to face this challenge. They grow their own vineyards and they have a 400 hectare estate on the banks of the Aragon River. It's a selected soil where, according to tradition, the Romans started growing vineyards and built the first bridges that cross the land. Half the land is of the Grenache variety and the other of different grapes: Tempranillo, Merlot and Cabernet.
