Gewürztraminer
Gewürztraminer is a highly identifiable grape variety with it's signature aroma of lychees. In German, "Gewürz" literally means "spicy" and this is another characteristic on the palate. Gewürztraminer's stronghold is in the Alsace where it is the second most planted grape variety. Gewürztraminer does best in cooler climates as is has a tendency to lose acidity before complex aromas can develop. Gewürztraminer has done well in New World regions such as New Zealand, Oregon and Washington.
