About Gammel Dansk
The actual recipe for Gammel Dansk is one of the best kept secrets. All that we know is that, beyond the rowanberries used, 28 different herbs, spices and flowers create the special Gammel Dansk taste. Many of the ingredients come from all over the world and they are carefully selected to provide the right aromatic, sharp and bitter qualities. After being treated and mixed in the correct proportions they are macerated in 38% alcohol for three months before being bottled and ready to be enjoyed.

The classic Gammel Dansk Bitter Dram was first handed over the grocery counter in 1964. It has remained faithful both in taste and appearance to the original. The secret behind the special bitter taste lies in the ratio between the 29 different spices and herbs from around the globe - including angelica, nutmeg, anise, ginger, and rowan. You may not directly taste what each ingredient does for the flavour but it would become apparent in the taste if one of the spices were missing.

The bottle’s special shape, with the soft, shapely curves, makes the Gammel Dansk bottle always known - whether it's on the breakfast table, in the evening relaxing around the fireplace, at lunch or a the pitch-dark hunting trip, waiting for the sunrise. The shape of the bottle neck is designed specifically to provide the unique gurgling sound which helps to spread the fun as soon bestowed with Gammel Dansk. Also, the classic label of the shilling mark in the wax seal, associated with the bottle top of the elegant silver stripe, are other sure signs of a bottle of genuine Gammel Dansk.
