Barceló are the only Dominician rum distillery to reach the carbon neutral status based on the Bilan Carbone License.
The process involved the following stages:
(1) The Carbon Footprint assesment
(2) The elaboration of an Emission Reduction Plan
(3) The realization of an Offsetting Emissions Program
Barceló was born in 1929 with the vision of a decanter Julian Barceló, young Spanish entrepreneur, founded Barceló & Co. in the city of Santo Domingo in 1930. The brand quickly became a reference between local rums and one of the largest and most prestigious Dominican enterprises.
Barceló is among the 10 brands chosen by the IWSR (International Wine & Spirits Research) to form part of the exclusive Elite Brand's List. This award is granted to alcohol brands of all categories that sell about over 1 million cases worldwide, with 40% of its sales outside its core market. Barceló here has achieved the highest growth rate among all brands with which it shares this distinction.
Also it's important to highlight that only two brands of rum are in the Elite Brand's List being Barceló the only Dominican brand there in. The products have competed with big international brands being elected, to satisfy even the most demanding taste panel of the most recognised organisations such as the San Francisco World Spirit Competition, Beverage Tasting Institute of Chicago and International Wine Spirit Competition..
Barceló Imperial was awarded by the prestigious Beverage Testing Institute of Chicago as the best rum in the world, carrying the badge of being the first rum to get the highest score in the history of this institute: 97/100.
