Domaine La Barbotaine
Location: Loire- Sancerre, France
The Champault family has produced wines for three generations. Frédéric Champault, the current owner of the winery, follows the tradition of his father, Roland Champault and his grandfather, Louis Champault, who were also winegrowers. Since he moved to the Barbotaine in 1994, he has worked in the vineyard together with his parents.
The vineyard is about 15 hectares in size and consists of different parcels of land on the hills of Crézancy, varying in terms of exposition and terroir. The Sauvignon blanc makes up 80% of the vineyard and grows on soil consisting of deep chalk and lime, with abundant caillotes.
These are little white stones typical for the region. Pinot Noir vines are grown on gravel and clay. The Rosé is a delicate and light wine made from the Pinot Noir.
