Location: Mosel, Germany
The Werner winery is ranked amongst the oldest-established winegrowing estates near the Mosel river, looking back at a long history. A family property since 1650, is run by a husband and wife team, Bernhard and Margaret Werner, and has select 6 hectares of steep slope vineyards, and produces some brilliant dry, off-dry and sweet Rieslings and a very rare Mosel Pinot Noir.
The spectrum of Rieslings that they produce range from the dry, in the case of the Classic and Grosses Gewachs, lively and off-dry for the Kabinett; and lusciously sweet for their Auslese. Their top vineyard is the Annaberg located around the town of Schweich. It is south-facing, meaning excellent sun exposure and the soils are made up of red slate and greywacke, which gives the wines great complexity and minerality.
