About us

Established in 1978, Amathus Drinks Plc is a family owned drinks importer, distributor and specialist retailer

Our mission is simple: to provide first class products and services to our customers in the on-trade, specialist retail and direct to consumers. Our eight retail stores are located in vibrant and cosmopolitan areas of London including Soho, Shoreditch, City, South Kensington, Muswell Hill, Brighton, Notting Hill and Bath, where all our staff are highly trained in wine and spirits and happy to use their expertise to advise and assist you.

Our services include exclusive events, masterclasses, free local delivery and a click and collect option via our revamped website to enhance your shopping experience. For the on-trade, our purchasing and account teams enjoy excellent and long-standing relationships with Michelin-starred restaurants, five-star hotels, select city bars and clubs and country gastropubs. We are also now supplying increasing numbers of independent retail outlets with our growing wine collection and renowned spirits brands.

All areas of the business are supported by our colleagues in logistics, a modern delivery fleet and a warehousing system which enables us to deliver to the majority of England and Wales.

In addition to supplying a comprehensive range of global brands, Amathus prides itself on the exclusive portfolio it continues to meticulously source from all corners of the world. Over four decades we have sought unique products selected on the criteria of provenance, distinction and, more than anything else, exceptional quality.

This is our real point of difference – a wide range of exclusive brands, expertly sourced. Our whisky selection includes a wide selection from Burgundy's Michel Couvreur, a few from Denmark's Copenhagen Distillery and Sweden’s Spirit of Hven. Japan’s Matsui and Kurayoshi, and (a little closer to home) The English Whisky Company, based in Norfolk. We import Cognacs and Armagnacs from the renowned producers of Francois Voyer, Pierre Vaudon and Chateau de Laubade. Then there are those that are a little more niche, such as Linie’s aquavit and old-school genever from Amersterdam’s Van Wees, before we even mention the Mezcal and Tequila of Los Danzantes, Alipus and Calle 23 and Tequila Komos.

Equally diverse is our wine portfolio which has grown exponentially over the past two years, all meticulously sourced by our in-house Master of Wine, Jeremy Lithgow. Our wines cover diverse countries and styles and include award-winning producers such as Chablis’s Domaine Gueguen, Australia’s Penley Estate, Elk Cove from the USA, Chile’s De Gras, with Artemis Karamolegos, Chateau Carras and Tsiakkas, paying tribute to our Hellenic roots. Our evergrowing range of premium sparkling wines now includes Champagnes from Champagne Lallier and Champagne A. Bergère, as well as English sparkling wines from Fox & Fox. In addition, we also have an exclusively imported beer selection such as Cusquena, Coedo, Septem and Fix. We are particularly excited about our recent sake additions including Japan’s Shichiken and Kanpai from no further away than Peckham!

With all this in mind, we look forward to the future with more excitement than ever as we continue our four decade odyssey of bringing Drinks to the World.

Modern slavery in the global drinks trade

At Amathus, we have been proudly supplying Drinks to the World for 45 years. Our founding family’s roots lie deep in Mediterranean vineyards and olive groves where sustainability was not a fad, but a way of life. So, it is no surprise that we have sought out producers who are committed to their husbandry in ways that reflect our own values.

In that time, we have forged strong and lasting relationships directly with growers who have become part of our extended family. Very often, these are smaller producers with long family ties to their estates, who care deeply about their agriculture and production. We maintain these connections by regular exchanges, whether this is sending our buyers to take a first-hand look at harvest and production or at trade fairs and development tours. We have clear insights into how our producers get their products to us.

And it is this close connection that gives us confidence that our producers promote the best possible conditions not only for their products but also for their people.

We will never knowingly work with suppliers whose values do not include respect for their staff, fair treatment in the workplace and a commitment to sustainable production. All of our new suppliers undertake due diligence with us to test for any risks of modern slavery in all its pernicious forms, and contract with us to provide assurances not only on slavery risks but also on bribery and corruption, each evil being an obvious encouragement to the other.

Naturally, many of our suppliers are large concerns. We do not take their global reputations for granted. We ask our suppliers to help us understand their own labour relationships and working conditions and their corporate social responsibilities.

We are fortunate that in our part of the supply chain, there is little scope for the abuse of people. Even so, we are alert to the risk of traffickers and the enforced labour and exploitation of the very young. We are happy to say that since awareness of modern slavery has entered widespread consciousness, we have yet to encounter a single instance of serious concern. We will not stop looking.

If you have any concerns or knowledge you wish to share in confidence please contact us by mail, marked Private & Confidential.

Best wishes
