Château Gaudin Pauillac 2002
Family-owned since 1901, Château Gaudin is an 11-hectare estate with a vineyard planted on the gravel ridge of Pauillac in a wonderful location just between Pichon and Lynch-Bages.
The 45-year-old vines are planted on gravel-clay soils.
The grapes are hand-picked and then fermented in traditional concrete tanks which sometimes achieve a softer more complex result than stainless steel. The wine then is aged in oak and concrete for 18 months before release.
Tasting Note: This has aged its entire life at the chateau itself, so is in immaculate condition. A lovely example of mature Bordeaux with an array of cassis and baked plum notes augmented by complex aromas of dried spices, fresh leather, cedar and soy. A silky elegant palate with fully resolved tannins, yet maintaining a core of dark fruit.
Food Match: Ideal with roast lamb, goose and cheese.
Closure: Natural Cork
Farming Practices: Contains Sulfites
