A bourbon made to resemble scotch whisky is Kings County Straight Bourbon. For a premium malt mix that avoids the wheat or rye commonly found in Kentucky bourbon, they combine English Golden Promise barley and 80 percent organic New York maize from the Finger Lakes.
It is matured for three to six years in a variety of new charred oak barrels after being double pot distilled for a delicious white spirit. This bottle, which is rich in caramel, vanilla, and seasonal spices, is usually mentioned on lists of the best non-Kentucky bourbons. This precocious whiskey, which is younger than some mainstream bourbons, is unexpectedly robust for its young age.
