From the northern stretches of Alexander Valley to the far outposts of the Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County is the core of Rodney Strong Vineyards. The winery’s owner, Tom Klein believes that “Place isn’t the only thing, but place is the most important thing” for high quality wine production. This is reflected in the quality of the vineyards they own and of the fruit they source. The winery itself dates back to 1959 when Rodney Strong retired from his profession as a ballet dancer. Sustainability is a major preoccupation here, starting with the land and extending to all their business practices. Environmental protection was incorporated into the company values in 1994 and one of the wine world’s first solar panel arrays installed in 2001. They are also Sonoma County’s first carbon neutral winery.
93% Cabernet Sauvignon; 4% Merlot; 2% Petit Verdot; 1% Malbec. From four estate vineyards on the benches and hillsides above the valley floor. 16 months in French and American oak barrels. Bold fruit aromas and flavours centred on red plum and boysenberry, elegant oak structure and a rich and mouth-filling texture with soft tannins.
