Head Wines from the Barossa

Head Wines was founded in 2006 by Alex Head. Having travelled around many of Europe's great wine regions, Alex fell in love with the Syrah wines from France's northern Rhône Valley - especially those of the famous 'roasted slope' of the Côte-Rôtie. Back home in Australia's Barossa Valley, the country's spiritual home of Shiraz, Alex has sought out parcels of vines that can bring a similar dimension of elegance and freshness to Barossa wines.

That often means working with growers in the Eden Valley, the part of the Barossa that extends eastwards into the hills, where elevations up to 500 metres above sea level help maintain natural acidity and fresher fruit flavours. Many of the vineyards Alex works with have gnarled, old Shiraz and also Grenache vines, with some plantings reaching 100 years of age, bringing depth of flavour. We're proud to bring Alex's wines into the UK and you'll find our selection here, which also includes a classically-styled Eden Valley Riesling, again from old vines.
