Metzer Stellenbosch wines

Metzer

Wade Metzer is one of South Africa's exciting new talents, making some of their best Chenin Blancs as well as reds from vineyards in the Helderberg mountain in Stellenbosch. Metzer Family Wines was born in 2006 after Wade had spent time being mentored by Eben Sadie, one of the most South Africa's most influential winemakers. Wade was particularly interested in how site-expressive old vines can be, and has hunted down old vineyards to provide fruit for several of his wines. With most having direct exposure to maritime breezes from False Bay, alongside altitude from the Helderberg, his wines from have freshness to balance the Cape's natural ripeness. To allow this old-vine fruit to express and the vineyard to shine, Wade uses minimal input: light fruit handling, indigenous yeasts for fermentation and minimal oak influence.

To showcase South Africa, Wade has championed old-vine Chenin Blanc from maritime and mountain vineyards, as well as Cinsault, as both varieties represent the Cape's heritage. From younger vines, he's also producing a Cabernet Sauvignon that represents the signature of Stellenbosch, as well as a bright Shiraz. You'll find all of these here.
