Provima Matelica wines

Cantine Provima is one the oldest wineries in the fast-rising Matelica region of the Marche, having produced wines since 1932. This is a small, high-quality co-operative consisting of 180 vinegrowers across 120 hectares of vineyards. When the grape variety Verdicchio is mentioned, the Castelli di Jesi appellation is normally the first that comes to mind, but head further inland, closer to the Apennines, and you will find the Matelica appellation, around the mediaeval town of the same name.

Only one-tenth the size of Castello di Jesi, Matelica is nestled between two ridges of hills that run north-south. This elevated valley is protected on both sides, with the altitude giving greater freshness, elegance and minerality in the Verdicchio di Matelica wines compared with their more famous Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi neighbours.

The range of Provima wines that we import to the UK includes not only their regular Verdicchio di Matelica, but also their fine Riserva, Matérga. Look out too for the Egos red, an organic Merlot.
