The Amathus Background

Created from within the existing family business in 1978, our company takes its name from one of the Georgiou family’s early wines, imported from Limassol, whose ancient capital is Amathus.

From that early start in Palmers Green the company grew to become a public limited company in 2007.

The roots of Amathus’ success can be said to lie in the ability to supply the quality of product that others fail to do. Shortly after establishing the company Harry remembers that it was the availability of a particular vintage of Dom Perignon Rose that lands just the second wholesale account for Amathus at the Four Seasons in Park Lane, from enquiry to delivery and account in the same day.

Developing the business means growing the right agency brands. Starting with Cartron, Germana, Old Rip Van Winkle and Corralejo in 1999 Amathus has been ahead of the curve on Pisco, Mezcal and now the new Nordics inspiration. High-quality brands with integrity and a good back story are key to being able to inspire the creative that drive consumers, and to put Amathus into the centre frame when a new idea or product is needed.

After moving away from the family shop model of business Amathus came full circle from 2011, opening four high-profile, centrally located stores servicing retail and wholesale accounts. For Harry the relentless drive to evolve and develop new opportunities, find the best products and the best accounts, is seen as crucial to fulfilling the company’s commitment to ‘Deliver Drinks to the World’.

In August 2015, Amathus Drinks & Harry acquired complete shareholding of Bablake Wines Ltd from the Wyles Family. The strategic acquistion continues to add Amathus' ambitious growth plans, increasing our customer and national distribution network.
