Aalto PS is the top wine from Ribera del Duero’s most exciting modern estate, run by the ex-winemaker of Vega Sicilia. Made of Tempranillo from very old vines, this is rich, velvety red oozes with notes of blackberry, liquorice, damson, clove and sweet oak spice.

One of the contemporary stars of Ribera del Duero, Aalto was founded in 1999 by Mariano Garcia, previously winemaker at Vega Sicilia who built a high-spec gravity fed winery with his business partner Javier Zaccagnini an ex-director of Ribera’s Consejo Regulador – a great pedigree. The Aalto PS is made of 100% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) primarily from very old vines – 60 to 90 years old – from selected plots in La Horra and La Aguilera. The harvest was done by hand, in small boxes of 15 kilos that are thoroughly inspected, bunch by bunch, on the selection table. 21 months in new French oak barrels.
Intense purple colour. Black fruits together with spicy nuances displayed in the glass confer on this wine complexity and elegance on the nose. It is fresh on the mouth; its soft and silky tannins give it great intensity and volume.
