MEET THE TEAM

KWAN - STORE MANAGER
Born in Hong Kong, a metropolis more well-known for its gastronomy than its local brewery, Kwan was initially destined to be a chef. But once he enrolled in a wine course with a master of wine, he caught the wine bug, and there has been no turning back ever since.
Upon graduating from Plumpton College with a WSET Diploma, Kwan became a sommelier at Hotel du Vin and Hakkasan Mayfair, where he developed a passion for sakes and Asian spirits. Then he moved on to retail, from selling one of the most sought-after whiskies and fine wines to the odd quirky bottle of budget-friendly Strega in Selfridges.
After a stint in marketing and copywriting with Australian fine wine specialist Langton’s in China, he is delighted to have returned to his retail roots in Brighton after the pandemic.
Interesting fact: Kwan is one of those handful of unicorns who holds all the highest WSET qualifications and is a certified spirit educator. Whether you are looking for your next wine, spirit, beer, sake or non-alcoholic tipple, he will bring you some new ideas with old classics and is always keen to share some new interesting gems from Amathus!
Apart from restocking the Mezcal shelf, you can usually see him sipping an old German Riesling or a whisky dram and drawing the outer sign with his chalk pen under the sun. And oh. He has no resistance against cats, and you can also talk about coffee, plants or anything about Japan for hours with him when you next pop into our friendly Brighton store.
