MEET THE TEAM


MATTHEW - STORE MANAGER
Born into the hospitality trade, I spent my early years assisting my father in his bar, handling tasks such as restocking shelves and maintaining the beer pipes.
As I transitioned into adulthood, my passion for the industry flourished while working in various restaurants and bars. It was during my time setting up and managing a restaurant in Devon, especially while crafting the wine list, that I developed a deep-seated fascination with oenology.
Upon my return to London, I embarked on obtaining WSET qualifications, which eventually led to a managerial position at a distinctive Wine Shop/Bar in Central London. Here, I had the privilege of conducting weekly tastings and curating our selection of wines and spirits.
Joining Amathus on July 4th, 2022, I initially managed the Notting Hill branch for about a year and a half before transitioning to the Muswell Hill branch.
My journey has also taken me to the regions of La Rioja and Navarra on numerous occasions, where I've explored bodegas, sampled diverse wines and cuisines, and received recommendations from fellow wine enthusiasts. Additionally, my affection for Italian wines has been nurtured through frequent travels to Rome and Tuscany, where I've been captivated by their rich diversity, value, and unwavering quality.
