The Lumière winery was founded in 1855 by Tokuyoshi Furuya, the great-grandfather of the present owner, Toshihiko Tsukamoto. In the mid-1960's, Toshihiko Tsukamoto decided to rebuild the winery using modern technology and renamed it Lumière (previously named Koshu-en).
Today, the winery is run by 5th generation winemaker Shigeki Kida, who oversees Lumière winemaking operations. The winery owns 3 hectares of vines and sources grapes under contract from a further 27 hectares of vines in the Yamanashi Prefecture. Lumière spares no effort in its winemaking endeavours and has consistently wine international awards over the last 25 years.
