Schiopetto Pinot Grigio Collio 2018
Schiopetto Pinot Grigio is made from old vines in Collio. From one of Italy's greatest white wine producers, it displays far greater depth and complexity than almost all other examples of Pinot Grigio.
Mario Schiopetto founded his eponymous estate in the 1960s and pioneered many modern winemaking techniques in the region. That continues today as the estate makes some of the finest white wines being produced in Italy. This, the estate's top Pinot Grigio, comes from old hillside vineyards, and has hints of blossom honey and lemon curd. Quite reserved at first, it then builds into something complex and broad, with marzipan and mirabelle notes emerging, alongside an almost umami note. Rich yet precisely focused. Quite possibly as good as it gets for this variety.
