They started making the Xocolatl Mole bitters while living in San Francisco, created the Hopped Grapefruit and Tiki while living in New York City, and formulated the Boston Bittahs when they moved to Boston.

Bittermens, Inc. was formed to promote a positive cocktail culture and to bring the Bittermens Bitters to market.
The Bittermens Hiver Amer came about due to a somewhat happy accident. While working on a prototype for a different liqueur of theirs, one of the recipes somehow ended up with 10 times as much cinnamon as it should have.
While some might have seen this is a bit of a disaster, it actually sparked ideas in the Bittermans' brains. The result is the Hiver Amer, a complex, spicy little number with plenty of cinnamon as well as orange a gentian.
