Château Léoville Barton is a family-run, highly regarded Deuxième Classe (Second Growth) estate in the appellation of Saint-Julien on the left bank of Bordeaux, made from 92% Cabernet Sauvignon with the remaining 8% consisting of Merlot & Cabernet Franc.

We charge a flat fee of £5.95 for delivery if your order is under 20kg, and £10 inc VAT if it is over 20kg. Free delivery is available for orders above £120 (inc VAT).

For Standard Delivery, we will ship items within 2 working days, provided the order is placed before midday.

For Express Delivery, we will ship items the same day, provided the order is placed before midday.

Once your order has been dispatched, you will receive a shipment confirmation email, and the following day, you will receive a text from our courier with a delivery window. If your order has not yet arrived, please email [email protected] and quote your order number.

The jewel of the Saint-Julien appellation, Château Léoville Barton is a historic family-run Second Growth estate with a steadfast commitment to traditional winemaking and an uncompromising focus on quality. Located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, the estate’s vineyards rest on some of the most renowned gravel slopes in the Médoc, facing the Gironde estuary and offering ideal conditions for producing age-worthy, classically structured wines.

The Barton family's involvement in Bordeaux dates back to 1722, when Irishman Thomas Barton first arrived to establish a wine merchant business. Over a century later, in 1826, his grandson, Hugh Barton, acquired 50 hectares of prime vineyards in Saint-Julien, laying the foundation for what would become one of the most respected properties in the Médoc. Recognised as a Second Grand Cru Classé in the historic 1855 classification, Château Léoville Barton has remained in the hands of the Barton family ever since. The estate flourished under the stewardship of the late Anthony Barton and is now guided by his daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius and her children, continuing the family legacy into its tenth generation.

The 50-hectare vineyard is planted with 77% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, and 3% Cabernet Franc, reflecting the classic Left Bank profile. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, thrive in deep Garonne gravel soils with clay subsoils, which offer excellent drainage and moderate water retention. These conditions, coupled with the estate’s proximity to the Gironde, provide a natural buffer against climatic extremes, allowing the grapes to reach full ripeness even in challenging vintages. The vineyards are maintained with traditional techniques, including regular ploughing, compaction to preserve density, and meticulous pruning using locally sourced wicker. No herbicides or phytosanitary emissions are used, and over 12% of the vineyard is now cultivated organically—a proportion that continues to grow each year.

The harvest is carried out exclusively by hand, with a team of 120 workers ensuring careful selection in the vineyard. Once brought to the winery, the grapes are de-stemmed, optically sorted, and gently crushed before being transferred by gravity into wooden fermentation vats. Each plot is vinified separately to preserve its character. Fermentation lasts between seven and ten days, followed by a maceration of around three weeks to extract depth, colour, and structure. The resulting wines are aged for 16 to 18 months in French oak barrels, 60% of which are new, sourced from a variety of top coopers.

Throughout the ageing process, the barrels are meticulously topped up three times a week to protect the wine from oxidation. Racking is performed traditionally using the “à l’esquive” candlelight method, and fining is carried out with egg whites, hand-separated and added to clarify the wine in the final months of élevage. Blending is typically finalised by the end of January following the vintage, with the Barton family, Technical Director, and consulting oenologist Eric Boissenot collaborating to craft a wine that reflects the very best of each parcel and the vintage as a whole.

Château Léoville Barton is celebrated for its timeless style: refined, powerful, and impeccably balanced. The wine opens with classic aromas of cassis, black cherry, graphite, and cedar, underpinned by notes of violets, tobacco, and subtle spice from new oak. The palate is structured and precise, with finely grained tannins and a persistent finish that speaks to the longevity and elegance of the terroir. Château Léoville Barton pairs with richly flavoured classic French cuisine such as entrecôte bordelaise or alongside mature cheeses like Comté.

The exceptional quality of Château Léoville Barton has gained wide acclaim from critics, attaining a 97 point score from Robert Parker and 96 points from James Suckling.
