Domaine Grand was founded in 1692 and today is in the capable hands of Nathalie and Emmanuel Grand, who have been behind the move towards organics. Their wines are towards the richer and more oxidative end of the scale – broad and rich, yet always controlled, plus a superb fizz and an excellent red. They make 19 wines in total from 9.5 hectares and are considered to be one of the most exciting up-and-coming Jura estates.
Macvin is a rarely seen traditional speciality of the Jura region. Here the sweetest Chardonnay juices are enriched 1 day after being picked, with marc from the estate, which has been aged for 2 years in 400-litre oak barrels. The resulting blend is then aged in 50 year-old barrels for 3 years to build complexity. Flavours of sweet white raisin, roses, Earl Grey tea and prunes, this makes for a delicious aperitif, digestif or cocktail ingredient
