One of the most renowned names in Burgundy, Domaine Leflaive is famed for their commitment to biodynamic farming practices, being biodynamic certified since 1997. Located in Puligny-Montrachet, this family-owned estate has been producing wines of exceptional quality since 1717. The Bourgogne Blanc 2022 is a superb example of the estate’s philosophy, offering a wine that embodies both the elegance and power of the region’s most famous grape, Chardonnay.
The grapes are selectively harvested from old vines in the “Les Houlières” and younger vines in “Les Parties”, grown in clay-limestone soils that Puligny-Montrachet is famous for. Only grapes of optimal ripeness are selected, undergoing fermentation in a mix of stainless steel and French oak barrels. The wine is then aged typically for around 12 months in both stainless steel and French oak barrels, with the later accounting for around 10-20% of the total aging time. The exact proportions and duration can vary slightly each vintage depending on the style the winemaker aims to achieve, but the overall aging process aims to balance the wine’s freshness and complexity.
trus zest, and light white peach. The palate is fresh, with a lively acidity and a clean minerality that adds depth to the fruit-forward profile. The wine finishes with a delicate touch of oak, bringing an extra layer of richness without overpowering the natural freshness of the Chardonnay.
This wine pairs beautifully with a variety of dishes, from grilled seafood like lobster or scallops to creamy pasta dishes and roasted chicken. It’s also a perfect match for creamy cheeses like Brie or Camembert. The Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 2022 offers a fantastic introduction to the estate’s winemaking style and is an ideal example of the elegance and complexity that Burgundy is known for.
Ideal for enjoying now, but will also benefit from a few years of careful ageing. With an outstanding balance of freshness, fruit, and subtle oak, this wine stands out as a classic example of Burgundy Chardonnay. The exceptional quality of Domaine Leflaive Bourgogne Blanc 2022 has garnered acclaim from critics, earning 90/100 from Parker and 92/100 from James Suckling.
