Domaine du Gros Noré, based in La Cadière-d’Azur, is one of the great names in Bandol. Winemaker Alain Pascal took over from his father in the late 1990s, transforming the family’s vineyards, once used by Château de Pibarnon, into a leading independent domaine. Working organically since the start (certified in 2020), Pascal favours minimal intervention and traditional methods. His wines are bottled without fining or filtration, and with very low sulphur. The estate is particularly prized for its Mourvèdre-based reds, but its rosé is now seen as a benchmark of the appellation, frequently compared to the legendary Domaine Tempier.
The Bandol Rosé is a blend of 50% Mourvèdre, 25% Grenache and 25% Cinsault, hand-harvested and cold-macerated for 24 hours. It’s strikingly aromatic, with notes of pink grapefruit, fennel, peach skin and wild herbs. The palate is full and textural with a gentle grip, balancing ripe stone fruit with citrus tension and a savoury, saline finish. It’s a rosé with backbone and complexity, equally suited to grilled Mediterranean dishes or slow lunches with serious seafood.
