Founded in 1842, Inglenook produced its first vintage in 1857 and has had a complicated history of ownership ever since. However in 2011, after owning a small portion of Inglenook yet producing wine under another name, finally Francis Coppola was in full control of both the Inglenook vineyards and name. What has been the consistent thread throughout is the high quality of output and attention to detail produced from Inglenook in the Rutherford AVA in Napa Valley.
Inglenook Cabernet Sauvignon is a tribute to John Daniel Jr., who produced the much heralded Inglenook 1941 Cabernet Sauvignon from vine cuttings brought to the Ingle nook Estate from Bordeaux by founder Gustave Niebaum.
The 2016 is an assemblage of 82% Cabernet Sauvignon 7% Cabernet Franc 6% Merlot 4% Petit Verdot & 1% Malbec.
Deep, savoury and multi-layered, the 2016 is full of ripe black cherry and blackberry aromas lifted by underlying herbal notes. The palate is seductive and well-framed, displaying a range of dark fruit from blueberry compote to brambly, spice-flecked blackberry, fine-grained tannins and a seductive finish
Here’s what Vinous says:
“Inglenook’s 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon has turned out beautifully. Savoury and exquisitely layered, with striking aromatic nuance, the 2016 has so much to offer. Dark black cherry, tobacco, cedar, grilled herbs and liquorice are finely sketched. More than anything else, the 2016 impresses in the way it balances intensity and detail. And of course, it is absolutely delicious too.” 95 points Vinous
