Kadoo Rum is inspired by the traditional Barbados sugarcane harvest festival, or ‘Grand Kadooment’, one of the world’s longest-running carnivals with a history dating back to the seventeenth century. It goes without saying that this merrymaking, including the crowning of the ‘King and Queen of the Crop’, is washed down with copious amounts of the local speciality – rum produced from the fruits of the sugar cane. Kadoo’s range of rums pays tribute to this proud tradition, while also looking forward to the future. Kadoo Club’s 8 Year Rum acts as an older brother to the 3 Year bottling, with an incredible level of development and complexity – due to the tropical heat of the Caribbean, a rum ages three times as fast as a comparable Scotch whisky.
This rum is best savoured neat or on the rocks, to best allow the spirit’s complexity to unfurl. Just like the younger 3 Year rum, the flavour profile is dominated by tropical fruit; unlike the other expression, however, the tertiary aromas of vanilla, fudge, caramel and cinnamon are far stronger, sitting alongside banoffee pie and roasted pineapple hearts. The smooth, long-lasting finish is dominated by woody notes (oak, mahogany and vanilla spice). Indeed, the complexity of this rum’s flavours would stand up to a rum-based Old Fashioned – mix Monin sugar syrup, Angostura bitters and rum with a dash of water and ice, and garnish with a Luxardo cherry.
