Bowmore Distillery, established in 1779, is the oldest continuously operating distillery on the Isle of Islay and one of Scotland’s most historic whisky producers. Situated on the south-eastern shore of Loch Indaal, Bowmore benefits from a cool maritime climate marked by salty sea air, frequent rainfall, and mild temperatures throughout the year. The distillery uses local spring water from the Laggan River, filtered through ancient volcanic rock and peat bogs, which imparts a unique character to its whisky.

Bowmore remains one of the few distilleries that still employs traditional floor maltings, where a portion of its barley is malted on-site, maintaining an artisanal respect for heritage production methods. The malted barley is dried over peat fires, contributing to Bowmore's signature smoky and maritime flavour. The distillery’s copper pot stills and a distinctive maturation warehouse, Vault No.1, known as the oldest maturing warehouse in the world, enable a slow and gentle ageing process that enhances the whisky’s complexity. Islay itself is renowned for producing peated and smoky whiskies, shaped by its rugged landscapes, sea salt, and peatlands, with Bowmore combining these elements into a balanced whisky featuring rich smoke, sweet fruits, and subtle brine.

LIMITED Bowmore 1989 34yr is a rare single cask release from cask #1972, bottled at 44.3% ABV. Initially matured in a bourbon hogshead, it was finished for 10 months in fresh sherry quarter casks. This ageing process imparts a layered complexity, balancing Bowmore’s trademark smoky character with rich, sweet and dried fruit notes.

Its nose reveals smouldering coal, stewed prunes, cherries, and creamy butterscotch. The palate offers bold layers of coal smoke, ripe dark berries, lime marmalade, and seasoned oak, culminating in a long, elegant finish marked by dark chocolate, aniseed, and warm wood spice.
