Deanston Distillery in the Scottish Highlands began as a large 18th-century cotton mill before its transformation into a distillery in 1965. Powered by hydroelectric energy from the River Teith, it harnesses pure local water and Scottish barley grown in mineral-rich soils to produce its distinctive whisky. The LIMITED 1996 Deanston 26yr matured for 26 years in a single bourbon hogshead, ageing naturally in historic weaving sheds that provide a cool, stable environment ideal for whisky maturation.
Located just north of Doune, Deanston benefits from a unique microclimate shaped by the river and cool stone buildings of the former mill. The region is known for high-quality Scottish barley with a low yield, contributing to the whisky’s robust character. Deanston exclusively uses locally grown barley and bottles all single malts without chill filtration or caramel colouring, ensuring maximum flavour and authenticity.
While the Highland region boasts a broad range of whisky styles, Deanston distinguishes itself with a waxy, spicy profile. Unlike other Highland malts that can be coastal, briny, sweet, or fruity, Deanston leans toward a dry, nutty, and gently spicy character, influenced by the mineral-rich soils and temperate River Teith valley.
This full-bodied, oaked single malt reveals rich notes of toffee, salted caramel, green apple, lemon zest, and subtle hints of nutmeg and ginger. The finish is vibrant and spicy, with lingering notes of citrus and anise. Bottled at 49.7% ABV without chill filtration or added colouring, it maintains a natural, robust character.
LIMITED is an independent bottler dedicated to showcasing whiskies that capture the interest of both enthusiasts and collectors. Every release comes from a single cask, making each bottling rare and finite — once sold out, it will never be repeated.
