Founded on the site of the first recorded mention of whisky in 1494, Lindores Abbey is steeped in historical significance. The Friar John Cor releases are named for the Tironensian monk who was granted malt to make “aqua vitae” for the king. Each release in this small-batch series is an exploration of flavour, heritage, and cask influence. Chapter 3, or “Corrugation,” is particularly defined by the way it marries vibrant wood influence with the house’s supple, malty distillate.
The nose opens with dense layers of sticky toffee pudding, dried figs, orange peel, and honeyed cereal, lifted by floral notes and sweet spice. On the palate, it’s robust and mouth-coating, evoking flavours of dark chocolate, PX-soaked raisins, and toasted hazelnuts, balanced by a peppery edge and hints of liquorice. The finish is long, rich, and textural, with a return of dried fruits, caramelised sugar, and warming oak.
