Maker's 46 has a distinctive finish and is aged longer with unique seared French oak staves to provide a more sophisticated taste. 46 is the son of Maker's Mark founders Bill and Margie Samuels and features delicately nuanced bourbon flavours and a well-balanced complexity. Maker's 46, which debuted in 2010, was Star Hill Farm's first brand-new main expression since 1953, when traditional Maker's initially entered production.
Makers experimented with numerous different oak staves. Making the cut proved to be difficult. Before being put to cask strength Maker's Mark, every wood sample was chopped and seared in various ways. The results of charred French oak matured for precisely the proper amount of time and only in cooler temperatures ultimately left the most impression. Only virgin French oak staves can produce 46's distinctively layered notes, free of the bitterness that frequently results from further age.
