This delicious Syrah from Chile's Rosario Valley is made by Matetic, who are Chile's foremost biodynamic winery. Released after several years ageing this is a plump, silky red with soft dark berry, black olive and pepper notes

Established in 1999, Matetic Vineyards are Chile’s leading biodynamic winery, located between the coastal valleys of Casablanca and San Antonio, the Rosario Valley has ideal conditions for cultivating red and white grape growing grapes. Spread out between the Pacific Ocean and the hills of the Coastal Mountains, the valley is completely enclosed and perpendicular to the sea. The proximity of the ocean favours the vineyards, with cool nights, morning fog, and coastal breezes in the afternoons that together allow the grapes to ripen slowly, producing healthy fruit that in turn make wines with fresh acidity and intense flavours. The granitic soils are rich in quartz and low in nutrients, allowing for good root exploration and excellent drainage.
Their EQ Cool Climate Syrah is from vines grown in granite soils in the Rosario Valley, this is aged for 22 months in French oak barrels, with further bottle age before release resulting in an attractively mature wine. A nose of pure blackberries and currents with dark chocolate with lifted violet notes and a twist of smoked black pepper. Soft, round and succulent - a delicious red.
