Porseleinberg is owned by Boekenhouskloof and only fruit from this site is used to make the wine. Following the purchase of this brutally inhospitable vineyard Callie Louw was bought in as vigneron and winemaker. Callie almost runs this single-handedly, he plants the vines (they needed some seriously heavy machinery to be able to drill through the slate and rock), he looks after the vineyard, makes the wine, he even debossed his own labels with an old fashioned printing press in the cellar. This is a stunning wine, full of pure red berry with white pepper and spice. Lots of tannin structure so does need a little time but the patient will be rewarded with a world class wine.
'Porseleinberg Syrah 2019 Swartland (13.5%) This remarkable site has established itself as one of the world's great Syrah vineyards in less than a decade. Sourced from four blocks totally 4.5 hectares, Callie Louw's stunning red is just short of perfection this year, but is still brilliant, confirming the evolution in style of the Jamet-inspired 2018. Leafy, spicy, rose petal aromas are supported by pure red berry fruit, detailed tannins and the faintest hint of oak.' - Tim Atkin 99 Points
