This excellent 23 hectare Burgundy domaine is run by Roger and his daughter Julie Belland. A range of top quality Chardonnays from highly regarded vineyards are made, alongside their succulent reds from lesser-known yet great value appellations such as Maranges and Santenay in the Côte Châlonnaise.
Processes in the vineyard are as natural as possible, with grass sown between the vines to encourage natural biodiversity and reduce predators. Very environmentally conscious, Julie prefers to use prophylactic methods instead of chemicals. In order to control the yields and vigour vines are selectively debudded.
Their Criots-Batard Montrachet is the pinnacle of their range, and this Grand Cru is made in pitifully small volumes from just a few rows of vines. This is one of the world’s greatest Chardonnay vineyards, with 30 year old vines planted on gently sloping clay-limestone soils. The wine spends 8 months in 90% new French oak barrels
A statuesque white wine, with compelling aromas of acacia, nectarine, pineapple, toast and fresh ginger. Broad and rich with mouthcoating texture and long mineral finish
