Schiopetto's Fruilano, from Collio in Friuli, is one of the flagships of this estate, making some of Italy's finest whites. This brilliant, aromatic, mineral, old-vine Friulano is regular Tre Bicchieri winner.
Mario Schiopetto founded his eponymous estate in the 1960s and pioneered many modern winemaking techniques in the region. That continues today as the estate makes some of the finest white wines being produced in Italy.
This wine is the estate's famed Tocai Friulano, from an old hillside clay-limestone vineyard. First made in 1965 and the first varietally-labelled wine of the estate, it is vinified and aged on lees in stainless steel tank for 8 months. Expansive nose of citrus oils, nuts, nectarine, flowers, curry leaf, hint of smoke; very complex. Mouth filling and intense but without heaviness - this regularly wins the coveted Tre Bicchieri award from Italian wine guide Gambero Rosso
