The GlenAllachie 35-Year-Old is a remarkable single malt that marks the oldest official release from a distillery to date. Produced in limited quantities, this rare expression reflects the Speyside distillery’s commitment to patience, precision, and long-term vision. Distilled in 1989 and matured for over three decades in a carefully selected combination of three Pedro Ximénez casks, one Oloroso sherry cask and two virgin oak casks, it stands as a showcase of the GlenAllachie house style elevated to extraordinary depth and complexity.
Located near Aberlour in Speyside, GlenAllachie was established in 1967 by Charles Mackinlay & Co. and has experienced several changes in ownership. The distillery’s modern era began in 2017 under the leadership of Billy Walker, bringing renewed focus to long-matured, character-driven single malts. GlenAllachie’s house style is known for its soft, elegant profile with subtle malt richness and delicate peat, making it an ideal canvas for extended maturation in expressive wood.
This 35-year-old release is bottled at 48% ABV, non-chill filtered and with natural colour, allowing the whisky to present itself with complete authenticity. The nose is rich and evocative, opening with notes of mocha, heather honey, cinnamon and pineapple, along with hints of pomegranate, raisins and cooling eucalyptus. The palate is characterised by layered complexity, featuring dark chocolate, treacle, dried fruit, and roasted coffee, which are balanced by tropical fruit tones and warming spice. Hints of nutmeg and clove round out the finish, which is long, textured and deeply satisfying.
Presented in a hand-carved oak box, this release is both a collector’s piece and a fitting tribute to the skill and vision behind GlenAllachie’s rise as a leading Speyside distillery. The combination of sherry richness, virgin oak spice and the refinement that comes with time makes this a deeply expressive whisky of exceptional balance and stature.
