Château Ducru-Beaucaillou stands as a jewel of Saint-Julien, producing wines of remarkable finesse and structure. Its 50 hectares of vines thrive on a unique terroir of Günzian and Pyrenean gravel—poor, well-draining soils that force deep root systems, contributing to the wine’s complexity and minerality. The blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Merlot undergoes meticulous vinification, with gentle extraction to preserve aromatic purity. Aged for 18 months in 100% new French oak, the wine gains structure, depth, and elegance.
Deep crimson, it opens with a powerful bouquet of dark berries, cedar, tobacco leaf, and spice. The palate is rich and layered, with a silky texture, vibrant freshness, and finely polished tannins that lead to a long, graceful finish. A true expression of its extraordinary terroir and timeless craftsmanship.
Robert Parker scored 94 points and he says: "Tasted at the château, the 2006 Ducru-Beaucaillou has a precocious bouquet for the vintage: opulent ripe dark cherry, red plum and cassis fruit, mint and hints of vanilla pod. It is very well defined and very sensual. The palate is medium-bodied with a sweet opening, plenty of dark cherry and blackberry, Hoisin, a touch of cedar and again mint. There is fine depth here, surprisingly young with a dense, slightly tarry finish that suggests another 2-3 years will be appropriate."
