Description

Elisabetta Geppetti, the powerhouse behind Fattoria Le Pupille, is a woman of exceptional energy and vision. She was only 20 years old when she first took the reins at her family’s property in Southern Tuscany in the 1980s. The winery is synonymous with Morellino di Scansano; a hilly subregion of the Tuscan Coastal district of Maremma that Le Pupille have proved is is capable of producing exceptional wines. Elisabetta has been instrumental in placing this appellation on the map of wine lovers, producing excellent value Sangiovese and gaining global fame with the area’s first Super-Tuscan, Saffredi. Poggio Valente is 100% Sangiovese from a single vineyard acquired in 1996. Aged in 50% new large 500 ltr French oak barrels.

“Tasted from vat, the Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente is an elegant expression of Sangiovese with just a hint of the freewheeling wildness that characterizes the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. The wine delivers cherry, wild rose, forest fruit and blueberry. Beyond those primary tones are integrated notes of spice and mild tobacco. The wine is put together with careful precision, and all it needs now is more aging time in order to flesh out and build depth. Everything is set, just give it time” 94/100 Wine Advocate
