Sapling Vodka is a brand for the future. Not only do they still maintain a low carbon footprint by distilling only using British wheat, but they work to enhance local communities by planting a tree for every bottle sold. Having only launch in 2018 they already have a number of exciting social projects across the UK and beyond. For example, they plant hazelnut trees on agroforestry projects in Suffolk which aim to reduce soil erosion and increase bio diversity on wheat farms. One of their trees on a monocrop wheat farm can bring up to 60 species of insect and bird back while turning the field into a natural carbon sink. They also focus on urban fruit tree projects around under-funded London boroughs that seek to reduce air pollution and reconnect inner-city people with nature.
Tasting Notes: The high starch content of the non-GMO wheat from which they distil leaves a wonderful smoothness and sweetness that lends itself well to a number of popular cocktails. It is buttery and soft, with just a prickle of caraway giving it a herbaceous touch. Try it with tonic water, over ice, with a sprig of rosemary, and you most certainly won’t be disappointed!
