Bepi Tosolini is a truly artisan producer of Italian liqueurs. With its original facilities nestled within the beautiful countryside of Friuli, just a stone’s throw away from the splendour of Venice, Tosolini has been distilling since 1943, and remains proudly family-owned and committed to carrying on the legacy of its founders. The distillery is proud to continue operating various different designs of manual steam stills for the production of its excellent grappas, and maintains a cellar in order to age the spirits in barrels and barriques in the appropriate conditions. We are delighted to be able to bring you their vermouth-based aperitivo, a more recent addition to Tosolini’s range at a time when the complexity, light spicing and unique terroir connections of these bittersweet drinks have never been more popular. Tosolini Dolce Vita Aperitivo is produced according to the same high standards of quality and savoir-faire. This aperitivo comes in at a refreshingly light 11.5% alcohol – lower than many other popular aperitivo brands, and even lower than most comparable wines, making it an excellent choice for savouring neat or over ice before dinner. The drink is crafted from a base of sweet vermouth, harmoniously integrated with subtle flavourings including bitter orange, herbs, and plant roots such as rhubarb.
In the glass, this will show an attractive orange colour, perfect for adding a dash of brightness to any cocktail. The nose is markedly subtler and more discreet than most comparable aperitivos, with orange and bergamot hints alongside blossom, rose petal and Italian herbs. Upon tasting, this will show distinct pink grapefruit, a natural and pleasant bittersweetness, and an extraordinary complexity of spices.
The vermouth base of this aperitivo means that it can be mixed with Gin for a negroni-lite, and would work very well indeed in a sbagliato. However, its restrained flavour profile and pleasant bitterness ensures that it shines when tasted on its own, not needing to hide behind other spirits.
