Bodegas Pinoso is a medium-sized co-operative in the Murcia region of South-Eastern Spain. Founded in 1932 it quickly established a reputation and membership expanded dramatically, becoming one of the largest in the region. In the late 1990’s there was a repositioning as quality became the primary focus, and from 1997 viticulture moved towards organic practices. Membership shrunk until only the most quality-focused grape growers remained.
The wines are made according to vegan principles. Pesticides are not used, and instead the growers are encouraged to increase biodiversity in their vineyards. The vineyards lie at 600 metres above sea level on rocky limestone soils which limit the vigour of the vines, giving structured, intense, aromatic wines. The continental climate, influenced by the proximity of the Mediterranean Sea, means rainfall of just 300-400 mm a year and up to 3,000 hours of sun per year which is perfect for growing the Monastrell grape, which forms the basis for the red wines.
This is a range of delicious, smartly packaged wines, perfect for serving by the glass.
