Etsu Pacific Ocean Water Gin is a Japanese spirit crafted at the Asahikawa Distillery in Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost island. This gin is distinguished by its use of seawater from the Sea of Japan, imparting a subtle iodised flavour that complements its botanical profile. The distillation process begins with a 22-hour maceration of botanicals, including juniper berries, bitter orange peel, liquorice root, angelica, and coriander. This extended maceration enhances the gin's depth and complexity.
The resulting spirit offers a fresh, iodised aroma with a smooth, silky palate. The taste is well-balanced, featuring the citrus notes of yuzu and bitter orange, complemented by a delicate saltiness from the ocean water. Etsu Pacific Ocean Water Gin has been recognised for its quality, earning a Gold medal at The Spirits Business Global Gin Masters in 2023. This gin is versatile, suitable for classic gin and tonics or as a base for more complex cocktails, offering a distinctive maritime touch.
