With 160 hectares of vineyards covering the Saint-Tropez peninsula, Château Minuty have become a household name in the AOP Côtes de Provence, helping define this category of rosé. First constructed under the reign of Napoleon III, the estate was purchased by Gabriel Farnet in 1936. The estate has remained in the Matton-Farnet family ever since, with the third generation managing it.
The purchase of the Château by Gabriel marked a turning point in the history of the winery, which had declined from its glory days in the mid-1800s. Gabriel undertook the project of restoring the estate to its former splendour and was a major driving force in its inclusion in the small circle of 23 Classified Growths when the AOP Côtes de Provence classification was created in 1955. It was not, however, until Gabriel's daughter, Monique, and her husband, Etienne Matton, took over the estate in the 1960s that Château Minuty became a staple on the tables of the finest restaurants on the French Riviera. Today, brothers Jean-Etienne and François Matton are proudly upholding the family legacy while bringing a contemporary touch to the estate. The brothers' focus on sustainable viniculture practices has been recognised with the attainment of HEV (High Environmental Value) certification.
The Prestige Rosé is made from a blend of 70% Grenache (70%), Syrah (15%), Rolle (10%) and Cinsault (5%) from a selection of Provence terroirs and specific plots on the estate. Situated on the slopes of Gassin and Ramatuelle, the vines on the estate benefit from even exposure, while the sea breeze from the Mediterranean moderates the high temperatures, preserving the health of the grapes.
Each of the different varietals is vinified separately, allowing for an optimal expression of each varietal's unique characteristics before they are blended. The grapes are cold-soaked and then pressed, after which a selection of free-run and press juice is cold-fermented in stainless steel tanks.
The wine undergoes no oak ageing or malolactic fermentation to preserve its freshness and precise aromatics. The resulting product is an expressive rosé that opens with floral notes, accompanied by apricot and yellow peach, with finesse and subtle citrus on the palate, culminating in the signature saline finish.
The exceptional quality of the Château Minuty 281 Rosé has garnered recognition among critics, with the 2024 vintage earning a score of 91/100 from both James Suckling and Vinous.
