Mayúsculas Albariño is part of Bodega Pizzorno’s fresh and modern Mayúsculas line, crafted to express the evolving character of Albariño in Uruguay. Bodega Pizzorno, a fourth-generation family winery founded in 1910 by Italian immigrant Don Prospero José Pizzorno, is in the Canelones region—a cool-climate area shaped by the Atlantic and the Río de la Plata estuary. The region’s calcareous, clayey silt soils and temperate maritime climate with mild summers and cool nights create ideal conditions for grape growing.
The vines for this wine come from the Don José vineyard, planted just two years ago on northeast-facing hills, where the nutrient-rich soil and stable temperatures nurture healthy, vigorous grapes. The vineyard is managed using a trellis system, and grapes are handpicked to ensure quality. Winemaking is led by Marcelo Laitano, who uses a classic stainless steel tank fermentation at low temperature for 15 days, with a short two-hour maceration in the press—techniques that retain freshness, vibrancy, and aromatic intensity.
On the nose, Mayúsculas Albariño is filled with fresh citrus scents like grapefruit and lime, delicate white flowers, and a subtle hint of minerality. On the palate, tropical and citrus fruits such as pineapple and lime burst with lively acidity, producing a clean, elegant finish. It is an unoaked, dry white that is approachable yet expressive, offering a tangy nervosity that makes it ideal for relaxed, outdoor enjoyment.
This wine pairs perfectly with fresh seafood, fish, soft cheeses, and crispy doughs, and is best served chilled at 8-10°C. Mayúsculas Albariño is a vibrant example of Albariño’s successful adaptation to Uruguay’s unique climate, combining tradition with modern winemaking for a distinctive, fresh white wine.
