It takes an amazing amount of vision to look at a patch of sunburnt red soil and imagine a vineyard bursting with fruit. That’s exactly what the late Wyndham Hill-Smith did when he founded Oxford Landing in 1958.
Few things in life have the power to capture a sense of place and community like wine. As places go, Oxford Landing is something special. No wonder he was smitten. It’s a location you don’t forget (or leave) in a hurry. Just ask the locals. The gobsmacking River Murray winds its way through the rugged rural landscape, rippling with life and promise. A sense of community is the heart of the South Australian region and the river is the lifeblood that keeps it flowing.
What do you get when you combine a Mediterranean climate, sunshine, fertile red soil, the longest single river in Australia and 300 hectares of vines surrounded by natural vegetation? Prime grape growing conditions. The Riverland is an arid part of the world, but their vines and the surrounding native vegetation add more flavour to your glass.
This wine's Chardonnay is sourced from vineyards in South Australia, where our access to the latest clonal and rootstock combinations continues to deliver outstanding fruit. The Estate's winemaking is focused on minimal intervention, using wild yeasts, malolactic fermentation, lees contact, and subtle oak to give our Chardonnay depth, complexity, and personality.
Pale straw yellow in colour. Ripe white peach, fig and stone fruits with accents of wild honey and native wildflowers. Layers of flavour build across the palate reflecting the fruit, wild fermentation, malolactic fermentation and ageing on yeast lees. The slightest hint of oak comes through as vanilla toast. Balanced acidity gives the wine a refreshing finish. Enjoy with avocado pasta or steamed salmon and sugar snap peas served with rice, toasted sesame seeds and ponzu dressing.
