We are feeling tropical at Amathus drinks and wanted to share some of our favourite rums and sugarcane spirits to get your in the mood too. If you were wondering what you could do with these delicious rums, we have come up with some of our favourite rum cocktails for you to try at home. 

 


Appleton Estate Signature Blend Rum 70cl

 

The Appleton Estate Signature is a unique blend of 15 rums, aged for an average of 4 years. Best enjoyed in a premium rum cocktail such as a Mai Tai.

 

Cocktail recommendation – Mai Tai


Add 35ml Appleton Estate 8yr Reserve, 15ml Grand Marnier, 25ml Lime Juice and 15ml Orgeat to a shaker with ice. Shake and strain into a glass with ice and garnish with mint and lime.

 


Rum Explorer Australia Beenleigh Distillers 5 year Old 70cl  

 

Rum Explorer Australia Beenleigh Distillers is a limited edition release Aussie rum, sought out by Calvados specialist Château du Breuil, with a floral style and a long, liquorice-laced finish.

 

Cocktail recommendation - Rum Swizzle


Pour 60ml of Rum Explorer, 30ml pineapple juice, 30ml orange juice, 15ml grapefruit juice, 15ml lime juice and 2 splashes of Angostura bitters into a tall glass two thirds full of crushed ice and mix. Add more ice and repeat.


That Boutique-Y Rum Co. Signature Blend #2 Elegant Dried Fruits 70cl

 

From That Boutique-y Rum Co. the Signature Blend #2 is one of their few continuous releases. Made with funky Jamaican and rich Guyanese rum, this expression elevates a rum cocktail to something very special.

 

Cocktail recommendation - El Salvador


Add 50m of Boutique-Y Signature Blend #2, 25ml Frangelico hazelnut liqueur, 25ml lime juice, 1tsp grenadine syrup into a shaker. Shake and strain into a tall glass with ice.


Kiyomi Japanese Rum 70cl

 

Kiyomi white rum is distilled from local molasses in a copper pot still at The Helios distillery in Okinawa, Japan. The sugar cane enjoys mineral-rich soils and a tropical climate, giving the rum a mineral, saline character.

 

Cocktail recommendation - Cuba Libre


Fill a highball glass with ice, then add 50ml of Kiyomi and 100ml Coca-Cola and stir. Garnish with a wedge of fresh lime.


Germana Traditional Cachaça 2 Year Old 70cl

 

Founded in 1912, Germana Cachaca today is one of the most renowned handcrafted Brazilian Cachacas. The recipe stems from a family tradition that began with the family’s patriarch, Sergio Caetano. The secrets of its distillation have been passed down from generations to generations.

 

Cocktail recommendation - Caipirinha


In a tumbler glass, muddle lime wedges and sugar to make a syrup. Add ice and 50ml of Germana to the glass and garnish with more lime.


Wray & Nephew Overproof 70cl

 

Wray & Nephew Overproof Rum is a back-bar classic, with its 63% ABV adding an alcoholic kick to many cocktails. A white Jamaican rum with bright flavours.

 

Cocktail recommendation - Rum Punch


Put plenty of ice to a tall glass. Add 25ml Wray & Nephew, 100ml Pineapple Juice, 25ml Cranberry Juice and a Squeeze of fresh Lime.


Barceló Gran Platinum Ron 70cl

 

In 1929 Julian Barcelo, born in Mallorca (Spain) emigrated to the Dominican Republic and the following year founded Barcelo & Company, following his dream of producing one of the best rums on the island.

 

Cocktail recommendation - Papa Doble


Add 100ml of Barcelo, 30ml pink grapefruit juice, 20ml luxardo maraschino liquor, 30ml lime juice and 15ml sugar syrup to a shaker. Strain into a martini glass.
