Rums from around the World

Rum

Rum is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from sugarcane molasses or sugarcane juice. It is produced in several countries, including the Caribbean, Latin America, and the United States. The earliest known rum-like drink was made in China in the 9th century. There are different types of rum, including white rum, dark rum, spiced rum, and flavoured rum. White rum is the most popular type of rum. It is clear and has a light flavour. Dark rum is aged in wooden barrels and has a strong flavour. Spiced rum is made with spices, such as cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves. Flavoured rum is made with fruit flavours, such as lime, pineapple, and coconut. Rum is often used in cocktails, such as the Mojito, Daiquiri, and Pina Colada. It is also used in cooking, such as in rum cake and rumballs.
