Casca wines is a multiregional project from one of Hélder Cunha, one of Portugal’s most widely travelled and celebrated winemakers, and experienced exporter Alexandre Tirano. Using their network of contacts throughout the country, they identify high quality vineyards in some of the major regions, and craft wines that reflect each local environment and a clean, modern style that offers great value and immediate drinkability.
The Lisboa region, around Lisbon itself is one of Portugal’s largest and most historic wine regions, where grapes have been grown since Roman times. Chardonnay, Fernao Pires and Vital grapes are grown in vineyards resting on rolling sandy alluvial land with a strong Atlantic influence.
The grapes are destemmed and crushed directly to the press. After cold settling the wine is fermented at a cool 14 ºc to retain all the delightful primary fruit characteristics before briefly being aged in stainless steel before release.
Grape: 45% Chardonnay, 35% Fernão pires & 20% Vital
Tasting Notes: The Chardonnay adds a ripe, round peachy dimension while the other grapes provide freshness, vitality and lift. A delicious plump white with stone fruit, pear and melon flavours, finishing with crisp citrus notes.
Food Match: Drink on its own or with a variety of light fish dishes.
An alternative to: Chenin Blanc
Closure: Diam
Farming Practices: Contains Sulfites
